Self-Care Chronicles, the Skincare Version

Self-care is a highly discussed topic lately, and it doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. If we are being honest with ourselves, self-care should be an evolving journey. I have been the queen of self-care and sabotage, sometimes simultaneously. Let me tell you, the best version of me comes with a various forms of self-care. For this specific post, I want to focus on something I have been receiving many questions/comments on lately- skincare.

Thinking back, my earliest memories of skincare have been times with my Grandmother, RoRo. I value that she has always taken such amazing care of her skin and passed her love for beauty down. A few of my most favorite memories are; resting on her couch with chilled Borghese eye compresses, My Custom Robe, and all of the Nordstrom Beauty Events. I am telling you, RoRo is Queen of Beauty!

My skincare routine took a backseat for far too long. Along with the many other moving pieces that make up 2020, I bumped my skincare routine into high gear. I am not saying that I wasn’t taking care of my skin before, but I wasn’t taking the time for professional advice or trying new products. I know, I know, there are millions of skincare lines on the market and making informed decisions can be difficult. I called in reinforcements in the form of one of the best professionals I know, Corrie.

Corrie Courville, one of my long-time friends, has been a licensed Esthetician since 2009 and is continually expanding her knowledge on all things skin. She owns Beauty Balance Esthetics in Addison, TX. She does does amazing brow work and offers a variety of facial services.

Corrie’s Core Four: Cleanser, Serum, Eye Cream, and Moisturizer-  every morning and night!

I booked her Express Facial just to get a good idea of where to take my skin care regimen and WOW! Words cannot express how much the texture and tone of my skin has changed by adding in a regular facial into my routine. Plus, the mama talk for an hour a month is good for my soul. Corrie knows when I am feeling overwhelmed and always helps me to relax while I am there. I call that a win, win!

One recommendation that I have been implementing as I run out of my current line has been to switch to a cosmeceuticals skincare. I’ll admit, it was hard for me to breakup with Kielhs after so many faithful years, but my skin does the talking.  Corrie gave me her recommendation on several products from Cosemdix and Image Skincare. The reviews are all amazing and the products speak for themselves. Most days I complete my routine and throw on a touch of mascara. (Thanks to my amazing brows!)

Morning routine: Image- Clear Cell Cleanser, Cosmedix- Simply Brilliant Serum, Cosmedix- Eye Genius, and Image- Prevention + Daily Matte Moiturizer with SPF.

Evening routine: Image- Clear Cell or Ormedic Cleanser (depending on how dry my skin is), Cosmedix- Simply Brilliant Serum with Pure C Crystals mixed in, Cosmedix- Eye Genius, and Image- Vital C Hydrating.

Weekly, I try to take a moment to relax with hot tea and a face mask. I do love a couple Turmeric & Cranberry and Rare Earth from Kiehl’s, but received a sample from Image of the Purifying Probiotic Mask and it makes my skin so soft after each use! Other tips: I use a fresh washcloth for each AM/PM (I know, I know this creates more laundry, but my skin thanks me) and my Clarisonic, which sadly closed. I will be searching for new options!

I am loving my results and I genuinely enjoy my skincare routine! It’s a daily commitment to myself and helps me to set a positive tone for my day. I promise,  book with Corrie or a local Esthetician near you, you will be so glad that you went!
