Let’s Eat!

Let’s eat in our refreshed dining room!

We’ve had a bit of projects within projects going on for quite a while, fortunately the dust is clearing. Time to share, reflect, and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Kudos to those of you who can create content in the midst of the madness. Growing up I watched/helped my Grandpa build a house from the ground up. He was always working on something, and I can’t help but think he is smiling down.

We took this room from drab to fab. Let’s take a walk down memory lane… This room is immediately off the entryway. This room has taken on many jobs in our time here; a catch all, an office, and a dining room. When we moved in the walls of this room were baby blue with dark brown wood trim, yuck! I went to Sherwin Williams and asked for a nice calming blue/teal… LOL!!! Maybe it was the way the color was in the space or maybe the sales person wasn’t sure what to sell me. It stuck for a while, but be gone blue walls!!!

In May 2020, we had a little dinner party to celebrate our sweet Carolyn. My head had been spinning on this space for quite some time, I really wanted a welcoming dining space. A place for celebrations, holidays, and Sunday dinners with the family. (Let’s bring back Sunday dinners!!!)

The 1970’s had some very interesting choices in texture, like crows feet. To be honest, it’s horrible and created drywall work all over our home, I was totally burnt out. I didn’t want to tape/bed another room for the rest of my life (we all know that isn’t true). So I did what any normal person would do -I gathered my mudding tools, a few boxes of joint compound and floated the walls. This process gave us mostly smooth walls to work with.

My grandmother has the most amazing home in Lakewood, complete with grasscloth. Grasscloth might not be for everyone, but it is for me! However, we have a toddler and two teenage boys, spending a small fortune on authentic grasscloth was not in the books for me. I was on the search for something with texture, that would give the look I was after without breaking the bank. I stumbled across this Graham & Brown faux grasscloth in the most perfect neutral colors. Swoooon!!!

Hanging wallpaper is a work of art time project, fortunately we did not have a pattern to match with this project. Pasting the wall and trying to keep it as straight as possible was the most difficult part. I covered the light switches and wall covers for a more finished look. With all of our projects we learn as we go, this space was no different. We should have placed the new crown molding before hanging the paper! We didn’t take the wallpaper up high enough on the wall and had to add a bit of extra trim, but I love the way the extra trim it turned out. As Bob Ross would say, a happy mistake.

We updated the lighting with this black Candle Style Chandelier. A perfect Wayfair find – Pottery Barn dupe. I went with the 36 inch which on closeout on the website, but I kmow you can find a similar styles at many other retailers. Swapped out the rug for some pops of color. The other new addition is this gorgeous cabinet that I found at Nadeau in Dallas. They receive new shipments regularly, so if you want to procure a piece, check their Instagram often! I was lucky enough to snag this piece on a lunch break one day. It brings so much life and fun twist to this space.

At Thanksgiving my grandmother suggested I paint my table black. I am so fortunate to have someone with such amazing style in my corner and I always appreciate her suggestions. I just so happened to have some TriCorn Black from Sherwin Williams left over from the coffee bar project. Wow, WoW, WOW!!! Such a transformation – a more sophisticated look. Could not be happier with the result, thank you RoRo!!!

The natural light through this space is so cozy and there is nothing better than a simple window treatment. I personally love the look of curtains that puddle the floor and the Ritva curtain from Ikea is the perfect natural/linen look to finish out your space.

Plenty of styling to complete but for now – let’s eat, drink, and be merry!
