Pantry Project

It’s time to reveal the pantry project!!!

Home Renovations seem to spiral from one project to the next. Sometimes pausing one to move to another and then back again. There wasn’t a plan in place to do much of anything in the kitchen, except new tile. Until the unexpected happened- the wall ovens went out. It was time to hit the drawing board.

Our pantry/laundry area is somewhat of an odd space in the kitchen, situated by the mother-in-law suite. There were once sliding glass doors, dark wood, and weird shelving. I could probably go on for days about the weirdness of this space. A few years ago we ripped out the strange shelving and put in our rookie project shelving. This revamp served as well for a time, but it was time for bigger and better things.

Fast forward a few more years, with more woodworking skills under our belt (thanks to my Uncle Hondo) and we agreed this space needed to flow nicely into the next areas of the kitchen. So we did what any normal couple would do (lol) and we gutted the entire space. Sheet rock and all. I know, I am bit a crazy. We were able to remove these odd drop downs in places and have the ceiling as one solid section, versus broken into three areas, which made  the space feel more closed in than it really was.

Up went a new ceiling, texture, paint, and last but certainly not least a custom built-in for the new pantry space. I spent plenty of time drawing out and envisioning the way our family would use this very important space. Making sure there was a place for things like the vacuum cleaner and recycle bin. The top portion of the pantry are large fixed shelves- I knew this section would be more of storage of extra times and bigger bags of chips and of course an entire corner for my Alani Nu stash. (If you aren’t consuming Alani Nu yet, you are missing out).

The main portion of the bottom left, we decided it would be a great benefit to make the shelving adjustable for when the needs of the pantry could change. I am so glad that we did this. These shelves are restocked- very often might I add with 3 boys in the house. I purchased these Prokeeper Containers from the container store. I have the baking set as well, and they are such great quality. Clear storage organizers from Amazon are one my favorite organizational items for the kitchen. I use these everywhere from the fridge, baking cabinet, to the pantry. I added some warmth to the space with these dark brown wicker baskets from Target. These work well for grouping items together and help me not have to look at the stuff all of the time.

The bottom right has one fixed shelf for storing paper towels, trash bags, and extra household items. The portion below that shelf is the cubby for the vacuum cleaner and recycle bin. Ta-Da! Everything has its place! I am sure there are some ideas that I missed, but for now this pantry is very functional and looks pretty, too!

Thanks for following along on this renovation journey! I can’t wait to reveal even more!
