I’ve been keeping a secret! A really, really huge and amazing secret. I have landed my dream job!

There was a reason for starting a blog in 2020 and for becoming a contributor for Dallas Moms. These create outlets have given me experience that has turned into something I would never in a million years thought of being the answer. Working with patients in Kidney and Liver Transplant. Yes, you read that correctly. A pivotal new role, working with patients on the waitlist for an organ, helping them craft their stories in search for a living donor.

Backstory

As most of you are aware, I am a Living Kidney Donor. My brother is the recipient. In August of 2022, we celebrated 10 years post-transplant of a “Perfect Match” kidney. Every year we celebrate over a meal together and reflect on another year of life. Years of life my entire family will never take for granted.

My brother was born with a posterior urethral valve that caused toxic waste to backup into his kidneys. Ultimately, one kidney was removed and he survived with one for many years. In 2003, my dad was his first kidney donor and gave my brother 9 amazing years of health. The tenth year took a dramatic turn, including dialysis. We lived on pins and needles for many months until we were given the green light of a “perfect match,” a staggering 25% of siblings will be a perfect match. We are forever grateful and will never stop advocating for living donor transplant.

New Year, New Beginnings

As fate would have it, in October I saw the posting for this amazing new role online. My heart skipped many beats and a few tears fell from my eyes. There was little hesitation to apply immediately. A lifetime of experience in the kidney world and my sweet little blog has lead to the most amazing opportunity.

With years in the healthcare industry, I never knew a career like this existed. There are many programs across the country with a Kidney Liver Living Donor Champion Coordinator – I am thrilled to be the first in Dallas. A fulfilling career, one that I have always prayed for has come to fruition – working with patients and their families. Knowing their struggles on an intimate level and being able to walk with them through some of their most challenging moments.

The moments ahead are sure to be some of the best yet. New challenges, instrumental growth, restoration for many, and the fulfillment of helping others in the very best way.

Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!
