Time for a Little Spring Cleaning

Starting to peel back the layers of winter as we bounce into spring time. The perfect time for wiping the slate clean in our homes. A little extra elbow grease to keep our treasures in top tip shape.

Children, puppies, and a Z Gallerie sectional most certainly do not mix. Dirt, sand, and grass are brought in on paws, hands, and trucks. Not to mention little boys and puppies have odors all their own. Start by removing all the pillows and vacuum to remove all of the hidden treasures.

I’m here to share with you my favorite hack to keeping those odors at bay.Vodka, yup that’s right. Vodka. Nothing fancy, in fact the cheapest vodka on the shelf will do. Side story, last week when I went to the liquor store to pick up a bottle of said cheap vodka and I felt really awkward at the cash register. I just had to clear the air with the cashier, “this is strictly for cleaning purposes.” She laughed and agreed that my purchase of McCormicks wasn’t great for drinking.

Back to the deodorizer – the ratio I use is 2 cups water with 2/3 of a cup vodka. Adding in your favorite essential oil blend is a perfect customization. My favorite blend is lavender, grapefruit, and peppermint. I use 3-4 drops lavender, 2-3 drops of grapefruit, and 1 quick drop of peppermint. Relaxing with lavender, a hint of citrus, and a pop of fresh from the mint. Add to a spray bottle and you’re ready to freshen up any upholstery surface.

Essential oils are good past the very last drop! My lavender oil was empty, but here is where we insert the magic. Remove the lid and drop the essential oil bottle into a mason jar full of water, you’ll have plenty of lavender water for either diffusing and making spray bottles.

I used nearly the full two cups for our sectional and have the remainder left to spray randomly until the next deep clean.
